I am so proud to share something our families have been asking for. Alma Flor Ada is now enrolling our new Spanish immersion Kindergarten in Woodbury for the 2026-2027 school year. For the first time, your child can continue their bilingual journey with us all the way through a full Kindergarten grade, taught entirely through our 90/10 immersion model by native Spanish-speaking teachers.
If your child will be five years old on or before September 1, this is the moment to secure their spot. Openings are limited, and they are filling.
Why is age five such a powerful time to learn a second language?
Age five sits inside one of the most receptive windows a child will ever have for language. Young children absorb a second language naturally, the same way they learned their first, through relationships, play, and daily immersion rather than memorization. That early exposure does more than build vocabulary. It strengthens communication, problem-solving, and cognitive flexibility, and those gains carry forward for years. Starting Kindergarten in a language-rich, immersive setting turns this window into a lasting advantage, and your child carries the documented benefits of bilingualism with them for life.
What makes the AFA Kindergarten different?
Our Kindergarten is a true kindergarten grade, not a daycare add-on. Children follow kindergarten standards and a rich academic curriculum, all delivered through Spanish immersion. The goal is simple. We want graduates who walk into first grade confident, bilingual, and ahead.
Here is what shapes every Kindergarten day at AFA:
- 90/10 Spanish immersion with native Spanish-speaking teachers, so language is lived, not just studied.
- Kindergarten standards and curriculum that build a strong academic foundation for lifelong success.
- A dedicated multipurpose room for robotics, STEM, physical education, and community events.
- A large, shaded playground designed for the energy and curiosity of school-aged children.
- Social and emotional growth that builds confidence, independence, and friendships that last.
You can see the full picture on our Spanish immersion Kindergarten page.
Is this the same as Kindergarten Readiness?
No, and the difference matters. Both programs live at AFA and serve different stages.
| Kindergarten Readiness | Kindergarten | |
|---|---|---|
| Ages | 4 and up (Levels 104 to 105) | 5 by September 1 |
| Focus | Preparing for elementary school | Full kindergarten standards and curriculum |
| Immersion | 90/10 Spanish | 90/10 Spanish |
| Next step | Continue into Kindergarten | First grade, ahead in two languages |
If your child is not yet five, our Kindergarten Readiness levels are the perfect bridge to this next step.
Do we need to speak Spanish at home?
Not at all. Most of our families do not speak Spanish, and their children flourish here. Immersion works precisely because it does not depend on the home language. Surrounded by native speakers and consistent routines, children move from listening, to understanding, to speaking, often faster than parents expect. Your encouragement matters far more than your fluency.
What is included, and what does it cost?
We believe in transparency, so here are the essentials in plain terms.
- Tuition is $325 per week for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Authentic, healthy meals are included. Good food is part of a good day.
- Small class sizes give every child individualized attention.
- Extended care and holiday care are available for busy, working families.
Bilingual children gain far more than a second language. They develop stronger academic skills, greater cultural awareness, and a genuine advantage in an increasingly connected world. That is the future we want to help your child step into.
How do we enroll for Fall 2026?
