No. Families do not need to speak Spanish at home for their child to thrive at Alma Flor Ada. Our 90/10 Spanish immersion model is designed to help children absorb the language naturally through daily routines, classroom instruction, play, songs, relationships, and repetition.
Our 90/10 immersion model means that 90% of the school day is conducted in Spanish. Children experience Spanish through classroom instruction, play, routines, songs, stories, social interaction, and daily activities, allowing them to develop language skills naturally, much like they learned their first language.
Our 5-level system honors each child's individual development pace. Children begin in Early Pre-K (Level 101) and advance through five intentionally designed levels, either annually or earlier when teachers evaluate they are ready emotionally and academically.
Teachers and staff continuously evaluate each child's emotional readiness, language acquisition, social development, and academic foundations to determine the right time to advance.
We maintain low teacher-to-student ratios to ensure highly individualized attention. Ratios vary slightly by age level but are always kept below state maximums to foster a nurturing learning environment.

A typical day includes Spanish immersion learning, classroom routines, play-based exploration, social-emotional development, music, movement, stories, meals, rest time, and opportunities for children to build independence.
Many children begin our program with no prior school experience. Our teachers are experts at supporting gentle transitions and helping children feel secure, loved, and confident in their new environment.
Yes. Our program is designed to support both Spanish language development and kindergarten readiness. Children build the social, emotional, academic, and early literacy skills they need to confidently transition.
Our core school day runs from 8:00am to 3:30pm. We also offer Before Care from 6:30am to 8:00am and After Care from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.
To maintain a healthy environment, children must stay home if they exhibit symptoms of contagious illness, such as fever, vomiting, or severe cough. They may return when symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.
We take allergies very seriously and have strict protocols in place to manage dietary restrictions and ensure a safe environment for all children.
We use positive reinforcement and social-emotional coaching. Teachers work closely with children to help them understand their feelings, develop empathy, and learn appropriate ways to express themselves.
