Pre-K

Two progression levels where children ages 2 to 3 deepen their Spanish, build foundational academic skills, develop emotional fluency, and grow into the children they are becoming. Native Spanish-speaking teachers guide every step.

102

Building Foundations

Vocabulary expansion, basic math concepts, confident social interaction.

103

Deepening Fluency

Pre-literacy in Spanish and English, independent problem solving, cultural traditions.

What Children Experience

Daily Spanish immersion grounded in the 90/10 immersion model, hands-on academic learning, music and art, outdoor play, and cultural celebrations from across the Spanish-speaking world. See what a typical day at AFA looks like.

How Children Advance

Children typically spend one year in each Pre-K level (102 and 103), advancing annually. When teachers and staff evaluate that a child is ready earlier than the standard timeline, they may advance ahead. Conversely, if a child needs more time at a level, we honor that pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Pre-K different from Early Pre-K?
Pre-K builds on the toddler foundation. Children ages 2 to 3 move from absorbing Spanish to using it, expanding vocabulary, building early academic and pre-literacy skills, and developing the emotional fluency to navigate friendships and feelings.
Do we need to speak Spanish at home for Pre-K to work?
No. The immersion happens at school. Your role at home is to support and celebrate, not to teach. Many of our most fluent students come from homes where no one speaks Spanish.
What academic skills will my child build?
Pre-K focuses on vocabulary, pre-literacy in Spanish and English, basic math concepts, problem solving, and social-emotional growth, all through play and hands-on learning.
